Drapery
Drapery;
In art history, drapery refers to any cloth or textile depicted, which is usually mostly clothing. The schematic depiction of the folds and woven patterns of loose-hanging clothing on the human form, with ancient prototypes, was reimagined as an adjunct to the female form by Greek vase-painters and sculptors of the earliest fifth century and has remained a major source of stylistic formulas in sculpture and painting, even after the Renaissance adoption of tighter-fitting clothing styles. After the Renaissance, large cloths with no very obvious purpose are often used decoratively, especially in portraits in the grand manner; these are also known as draperies.
For the Greeks, as Sir Kenneth Clark noted, clinging drapery followed the planes and contours of the bodily form,, emphasizing its twist and stretch: "floating drapery makes visible the line of movement through which it has just passed.... Drapery, by suggesting lines of force, indicates for each action a past and a possible future." Clark contrasted the formalized draperies in the frieze at Olympia with the sculptural frieze figures of the Parthenon, where "it has attained a freedom and an expressive power that have never been equalled except by Leonardo da Vinci". Undraped male figures, Clark observed, "were kept in motion by their flying cloaks."

Sophia Kokosalaki
All Catwalk Images are Designs of Sophia Kokosalaki, a Grecian Fashion designer
Sophia Kokosalaki was born in Athens in November 1972. she graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Designs with a MA in womenswear in 1998.Kokosalaki’s first womenswear collection was debuted London Fashion Week in 1999. She was chosen to design the opening and closing ceremonial outfits for the Summer olympic games in 2004, which where staged in her home town (Athens). Sophia Kokosalaki’s labels made it in the TopTen British Cool Brand Leaders in 2004. She has collaborated with TopShop on a capsule collection and from 2006-2008, became creative director at the resurrected historic French fashion house Vionnet.
Kokosalaki loves to incorporate Greek style into her designs. She tends to make her garments to the modern day grecian style as she values the elements of her origin and heritage o create up-to-date designs. Kokosalaki first became famous in the word of fashion for her work of drapery. (Drapery: fabric arranged and hung in a loose folds). Although she admits it is not easy using resources from the past to lead towards the future, Kokosalaki definitely does a great job as she is a rising start in London’s fashion world. She has been issued with regular editorials in Vogue magazine, which was the starting booster of her career through the UK Vogue magazine and launched her right into the high fashion industry. She has also been featured in Harper’s Bazaar and W magazine. Her trademark style ofter features the classic Grecian draping combination with handcraft elements, in an innovating fusion. Her speciality is soft flowing dresses, and her work with Knitwear and leather has also draw praise. Aiming to produce clothes that are perennially popular, Kokosalaki fuses that old and new.

'I put it on just before I was due to go out on parade, but I felt these sharp pains when something stuck into my back,' she told Sydney's Daily Telegraph.
'I took the top off and found all these pins had been stuck into it.
'I didn't have any injuries or marks, but I didn't have much time to take them out and get it back on because I had to be out there.
'The sabotage was a bit harsh, but you have to laugh at these things and not take it too seriously. And it did give me a story to tell when I got home.'
